Understanding Eggs
Eggs are rich in protein, B vitamins, iron, and other minerals. These are all essential for good health. But egg yolks are also high in cholesterol, which contributes to high blood cholesterol levels. High blood cholesterol is a risk factor for coronary heart disease and stroke because it leads to fatty buildups in artery walls.

The AHA recommends that healthy American adults limit cholesterol intake to less than 300 milligrams (mg) per day. One large, whole egg contains about 213 mg of cholesterol. This is about 71 percent of the daily recommended limit for healthy people (less than 300 mg), and too much for those with certain risk factors.
