Your server is at your table with pen in hand, and that can only mean one thing…it's time to eat!

Here are a few more tips to keep you on the right track when the server - and your meal - arrive!

•  Order first. You'll be less likely to be swayed by your dining partner's choices.

•  Rather than fried appetizers or cream soups, begin your meal with broth-based soups, such as minestrone or gazpacho.

•  Remember, salad bars can be friend or foe, depending on what you select. Stay away from high-fat items, such as grated cheese, cream dressings, chopped eggs and croutons.

•  Try a squeeze of lemon instead of dressing on your salad.

•  Choose seafood, chicken or lean meat. Avoid fatty meats. If you order meat, remove all visible fat.

•  Remember, if you order a chicken dish, don't eat the skin. That's where almost all the fat is!

•  Don't falter! Fried entrees are out. Broiled, baked, grilled, steamed or poached entrees are in.

Bon Appetit!

We hope these ordering and menu suggestions are helpful. They're just a sample to get you started - there are many other healthful and delicious choices, too. Use your judgment, and don't be afraid to ask your server questions about how certain items are prepared. Many restaurants are glad to prepare special orders, so don't be shy about asking for high-fat ingredients to be replaced with low-fat ones. Low-fat eating doesn't mean you have to give up tasty foods, so savor the flavors!
