Healthy eating can be easy, and smart shopping can be simple. A good place to start is making a shopping list of the food items you'll need to prepare the meals you've planned. Here's how:

"  Start your list when you plan your meals, and add to it as you think of other items you need.

"  Keep the list where family members can add to it, too.

"  When you go to the store, don't forget to take along your best friend - your shopping list. Visit our Food Certification page for a list of certified foods arranged by food categories.

This handy list will save you time as you search out your healthful food choices. It will also help you avoid some not-so-healthful impulse buying.

Smart Shopper's Tip: If you know the layout of your store, try to list items in the order you find them as you walk through the store. For instance, group fruits and vegetables at the top of your list under the heading "produce" if that's where you begin shopping. Place the frozen foods last on your list under "frozen foods" if that's your last stop in the store.
