At the grocery store, beware of foods in every aisle that are waiting to undermine your healthful shopping trip.

Here are a few tips to help you save food dollars with heart-healthful foods:

•  Buy fat-free, ½% fat or 1% fat milk rather than 2% fat milk, whole milk and cream, which are high in fat and cost more. Use evaporated skim or fat-free milk instead of cream.
•  Skim milk in half gallons costs less than quarts, but it's a bargain only if you use it before its expiration date.
•  Substitute low-fat or nonfat buttermilk, yogurt and sour cream for the regular items.
•  Fat-free or low-fat ice cream, fat-free or low-fat frozen yogurt, and sherbet or sorbet all have less saturated fat and cholesterol than regular ice cream.
•  Low-fat cottage cheese can replace ricotta in most recipes.
